How to book a cheap flight to Detroit

If somebody tells you there aren't any fun things to do in Detroit, it's because they're keeping all the good secrets to themselves. From the all-American Henry Ford Museum to the downtown Detroit Lions or Tigers games, Detroit is a classic, must-see US city. Despite its reputation for being dangerous, the crime rate in downtown and main tourist districts has reduced in recent years.

In the summer, take a bike ride along the riverfront or a trek around Belle Isle, or shop in Greek town, a historical entertainment district steeped with Greek culture. Don't think Detroit isn't bringing its A-game to the celebration. Because it is the home of Motown Records and the birthplace of techno music.

Detroit is one of the top cities in the United States for music fans. It is also the fourth-greatest beer state in the country. Let us raise our glasses to it! Reserve a flight to Detroit and spend your days there to plan a trip to this great city.

Things to do in Detroit

1. Detroit Airport

Are you looking for low-cost flights to Detroit? Your best bet is the Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW). Once you arrive, take the FAST bus (Rte. 261) from the airport to downtown for only $2. The FAST bus connects both ports and makes various stops across the city. It takes roughly an hour (as compared to about 40 minutes of driving), but it's less expensive than Uber or a cab, which equals more money for food, right? You can use the Detroit People Mover once you've arrived downtown. It's a light rail shuttle that runs around downtown Detroit, stopping at all the key attractions. What's the best part? A ride costs only $0.75!

2. Places to Visit in Detroit

In Detroit, let your inner sports enthusiast shine. Catch a game live at Comerica Park, or watch from one of the dozens of sports pubs and taverns with a terrific view and food. Nothing says "Detroit" quite like a Coney Dog (a hot dog covered with special "coney chili sauce," onions, and mustard). Locals argue whether American Coney Island or Lafayette makes the superior coney dog—we'll let you decide.

What else should you see in Detroit? For a trip down memory lane, visit the Henry Ford Museum or Hart Plaza for outdoor music. Every Saturday, Eastern Market has approximately 200 stalls providing food, fresh fruit, art, books, and other items. Hike around Belle Isle Park, a massive island in the Detroit River larger than Central Park. You could even rent kayaks and paddle over the Detroit River, claiming to have kayaked to Canada!

3. Detroit Hotels

With so many hotels in downtown Detroit, you'll never have to leave the action. The Atheneum Suite Hotel is in the Greektown Historic District, near a variety of retail and entertainment options. Looking for a low-cost option? Choose the Red Roof Inn. You'll be a little further away from downtown, but these prices may be too good to pass up. Stay at the Best Western Plus Waterfront Hotel for a room with a view (plus, you'll be in the heart of downtown and get a complimentary breakfast!). Cha-ching). The Inn on Ferry Street is a stylish and one-of-a-kind option.

4. Food and Music in Detroit

Detroit is well-known for its musical influence. For decades, Detroit has been an MVP in the music world, from techno to R&B to jazz. For modern music in a historic (and stunning!) setting, check out the Fillmore or Fox Theatre. Of course, great music is with great nightlife, particularly in the heart of downtown Detroit.

Visit Ghost Bar, a scary house bar selling different types of spirits, or Cornerstone Bar for good happy hour rates and menus. Of course, you could always go to a local brewery—the Atwater Brewery even conducts tours on Saturday afternoons.

Do you need some food to go with your brew? Mercury Burgers Bar serves Detroit-style pizza (square and deep-dish) and burgers. Plan a trip to this beautiful city of Detroit so book a cheap flight to Detroit and enjoy your days in Detroit.
